Yeah, and if you make the mistake of getting un-married you'll take home even less.

Edited: Upon rereading this I realized it should have read "...make the mistake of getting married. This can be really compounded by making the mistake of getting unmarried."

.... ah yes ToB, i still remember that stranded merchant with his robbed cart, who just happened to have something left, a +4 version of every weapon category you can think of, plus some assorted lvl 8 and 9 spells... Haha! I did not know of this encounter, it begs the question, who the heck did he...

No I have not tried them yet. My take home on them was that they were great political simulations ... what ever that means. So I have a copy Midsummer Knights Dream on my laptop here at work, just waiting for a road trip to happen. If I ever get a chance to try it I'll let you know what I thought.

Throne Of Bhaal - the expansion for Baldur's Gate 2. Thanks. I never got a copy of Baldur's Gate 2 ... The first one was enough for me. It never 'caught' me. BTW - You realize that there are places on the gaming internet that would have you flamed from 70 different directions for refering to ToB as...

Sorry to display my ignorance, but what is TOB? Do you mean EoB?

My first cheat was Ultima 3 ... my bro and I were stuck getting the sign of the snake. We just COULD not do it. We went over all the dungeons w/ a fine tooth comb, mapped out all 8 levels (or was it 7? Dunno it was 1986 after all), on graph paper, including the teleport traps. Just could not find it...

Okay, here's some I enjoyed (I copied some of this from a post I made a while ago somewhere else): Twilight - I loved the ending. I was really disappointed that the follow up is not out of beta yet! Parts were a bit boring, but I liked the interaction with the squire, the world, and the special pala...

Re: Some CRPG advice

...The flaws of NWN are well documented. I believe it's strength lies in multi-player rather than single-player. From what I've seen of the mods, some do attempt to take the game in different directions but they are still clearly amateur mods. I agree with what you say about multiplayer, and I real...

It's not as bad as you might think. Since the game is mostly a hack'n'slash I handled my spells (as a Sorcerer) as follows: On the default quick key menu the 4 or 5 offensive spells, healing potions, and weapon load outs. You will never need more than that, as the early offesive spells (eg: Melf's A...

Well, as a mage you can use the pixie as a familiar. They are great at opening chests ... not bad for advanced scouting either. Hmmm, maybe I should try a mage next. Nah. I hate the rest anywhere part. It is too much for me ... almost (but not quite) as bad as the healing potions being so plenitful ...

well, with my (pure) DD fighter I had to change tactics quite often, rushing in and flattening everything like a Diablo barbarian wasn't possible, although the fighting is a lot more simplistic than TOEE's of course.I was rather talking about the puzzles and adventure-style quests in DD though, which c...

DD is like Diablo with humor and a story line ... oh yeah, throw in a couple of nifty skills. I really liked it, but it is *not* a thinking persons game. not any less than TOEE...DnD tactical combat isn't what I consider to be a mental challenge  Hmm, point taken. I did, however, have to do s...

If you are looking for an old style (read gold box) D&D CRPG then I recommend Temple of Elemental Evil. Graphics are not great, but it is an excellent port of the D&D 3.5 rules ... however a lot of the story is ... um... boring. DD is like Diablo with humor and a story line ... oh yeah, throw in a c...

@Phosphor - I am afraid that NWN and expansions and mods will always be heavy on the slaughter and light on the tactics. There just are not enough party memebers to employ, and the real time interface does not encourage 'tactics' outside of judging when you use your potion of speed or barkskin or wh...

If you have HotU or SoU installed and play the original campaign you can access and use the prestige classes and all the funky skills. However! The functionality of the henchmen remains at the level of the OC. I got very spoiled during the HotU campaign being able to access inventories and give *mea...
