Well the webmasters still working @ IPLY

Post by foxes1884 » Sat May 01, 2004 10:14 pm

Seems the webmaster at IPLY's still got work to do (as. at. 23.00 GMT) 5/1/04 the site removed all mention and adverts for BGDAII and even that awful looking frankenstein game for the Mac from the coming soon section.

Seems an odd thing to be doings. BGDAII is now not even in the latest releases section, any thoughts? :?

Oh wait I see the black Isle site is down, looks Like Atari what everything removed. I would of thought that all IPLY's previous D&D titles would of been kept, but everything seems to have been striped from the site, Icewind Dale etc etc..

Odd.

Huh. Wonder if they'd even be able to sell the BG and IWD titles now.

They'd have been better off adding a "PayPal: Donate" button on the site.

Lets suggest it to Herve

Too late, Val, he already said that idea was in pre-development. :madr:

All the games (IWD series, BG series, PS:T) are still listed on IPLay's support page, but not in their "Games" index.

My best guess

Post by foxes1884 » Sat May 01, 2004 10:25 pm

My best guess is that is was part of the Atari deal regarding the D&D licence. It does seem a strange thing to be doing, the back catalogue does provide some money. Games can be republished in budget, classic and boxset formats etc. Maybe Atari have purchase the back catalogue of old D&D titles, so they can use these with future D&D titles they produce. They will have known of IPLY cash problems so a small offer might have got the lot.

Also no BGDAII in the IPLY store, now not selling your own top selling title....... :?

Well, look at the situation here. Atari, big company, lots of money, probably has the law on its side too, tears into Interplay. Interplay stands to lose the DA license and rights one way or the other. Also, Interplay has no money. That situation doesn't give them a good situation to strike any kind of deal, y'know.

Considering the above, in a way stricking a deal to sell the backcatalogue and getting out of it would make sense. I'm guessing Caen did that.

Either that or Atari got the best of him and tore the rights out of his hands. In that case he's *i have potty mouth*. No big game in stores, no money either. Ooops?

Iply can no longer sell ANY D&D products (IWD, BG). What is on the shelves is all that is left until a cash dispute with IP/Atari/Vivendi can be worked out. Iply will no longer recieve any cash from Vivendi till this gets worked out. It would seem Iply failed to pay someone on tim, I believe Atari, but I am not sure on details.

Yea, but I got a feeling there will be more "surprises" to come out of Iply before all is said and done.

You have to start wondering what will happen to the FO liceanse. If it goes up for sale, I personally think Obsidian would get it. I think they would have the cash (with possible Bioware backing) and would be willing to stick their current second game on the back burner (its not like they are currently devolping it heavily).
