JJ's crap is indeed that. And what makes me howl, and it's typical of fandom with any major franchise, are the little kiddies, of all ages, running around online proclaiming that if you don't love JJTrek, you're not a true fan.

That mentality just makes me laugh.

That's the new Tron movie? Haven't seen it, but the original Tron (which I saw at the movies when it was released) is a tough act to follow, because you can't really recreate the entire 80's "ambience" without the context of the actual 80's. It was very much a product of its time.

Wasn't that Ender thing a book originally?

Worst movie I have vague memories of (trying hard to suppress it) was something about the sea and giant robots and big ships. I don't even remember the title, but it was really, really awful. I had to watch Pulp Fiction again to make the pain go away.

So... I get home from work last night and go to Netflix to pick something to watch/fall asleep to and there, all big and shiny, is the suggestion of STID... Yeah. Had not even the slightest inkling of a wee tiny desire to watch. I am proud to say that I never will.

No desire to see the Tron thingy either. I'm in complete agreement with Gorth.

I would recommend not starting to watch it without at least a very large jar of instant coffee in the house. It's one of those maudlin dramas where you fight the good fight to keep your eyelids up in the name of being artsy/political correct/something not sure what.

Yeah, I saw it once. May be based on true events but there is better entertainment out there.

Mirror Mirror and Andromeda. Mirror Mirror was less engaging that I originally thought. Andromeda's sweet and very good so far, at the 5th episode.

Do yourself a favor and stop at the penultimate episode of Season 2 and pretend the rest never happened. :haha:

Yes, that would be the new Tron movie. It doesn't really try to capture the 80ies ambience of the original. It really has more of a 2k's look and feel to it (think of the difference in look and feel between say The Empire Strikes Back and the new trilogy) - and the soundtrack is absolutely awesome. Like, best soundtrack ever.

The only issue is the movie is plainly put uttely boring. If you're showing off two hour special effects porn the action should be packed and supreme, not like this.

Yes, and a good one at that. It's just one of the things that simply don't work out as well in film. You're sitting in this no suspense at all sitation in the film until the big reveal near the end happens.

Warning, spoilers:

So at the end, Ender (haha, pun, get it?) is participating in battlefield simulations against an adaptable AI supposedly designed by the military to test if he's ready for command of Earth's space forces. Except of course they aren't simulations at all and the battles are real and in the end he wipes out the enemy's home planet to win the "simulated" war.

Now imagine this in a movie. It just doesn't work. There's never any suspense because we all believe neither the forces nor Ender are in any real danger. So you have overly long, pretty CGI battles with zip suspense and a reveal at the end that doesn't have the same impact as the book had because the book wasn't about the battles as much as about the military manipulating Ender all his life and how Ender deals with this situation and his relationship with his siblings.

The movie places its entire payoff on the reveal that Ender killed off an entire sentient species for real in a supposedly simulated battle - one we only once see on screen before that - and at that point we don't even know it's one of them because it happens in a computer game Ender is playing. Ah well... rant over.

Tales of the Gold Monkey. Good old pulpy goodness. Sadly TJ Hooker stole the spotlight from it, just like William Shatner stole the Enterprise from Steven Collins in Star Trek 1

Currently on episode 11, I really like how Becca's developing. Really hope Trance gets some of the same treatment. I was floored to see Jon de Lancie as her uncle. Not really too keen on Seamus don't know why but he rubs me the wrong way. I find Tyr to be a tad subdued but he hits the dry humor perfectly when he executes it, I am going to continue watching some more today.

Why is there so little on worth watching? I don't do cable TV. Waste of money. Netflix is maybe 5-10% ok and the rest is crap. Thankfully Netflix is only $7.99 a month and not the insane prices cable TV companies charge.

Land of the Dead. Hysterically weird and oddball zombie movie. Not sure if good
