Berlusconi's people have a point when they say that they're not impressed. It's a so called democracy people. The guy wouldn't be in office if he hadn't been elected by a majority. And seeing as he has such a long history of corruption, personal greed, and probably criminal contacts under his belt, and he still got elected time and time again, he can be at ease.

Maybe the NATO will go and bomb some democracy into the country though. It's not even as far as Afghanistan.

hmm, i think berlusconi is at least more interesting than who the fudge are anka and paul, especially when he scoffs Merkel. That guy is a serious joke though, hope the court speaks against him and he gets his inviolability law voted off on top.

I think Berlusconi more than most highlight how modern, western democracy works. Those who controls the media (and by extension public opinion) are those who wields power.

This shoe carries the Winterwind Seal of Approval (r)

Propel it at high velocity towards your object of objection, whether it be politician, corporate leader, clergy man, door sales man or other individuals worthy of such attention. Make your voice heard, say it with a shoe!

We've had them on display (at the same museum I say King Tut at) and Jordan asked us to intervene and hold them until such time (never) that they, Israel and Palestine decide who owns them. We said no. Good for us.

Must say I'm surprised no-one posted/commented on the attempted bombing of the plane Christmas day, the resulting American paranoia with airlines and security (back to 9/11 levels) or the earthquake in Haiti.

Come on folks, the news is depressing at times but at least it's good for discussion. Isn't it?

Hmmy, though with news coming from my home country i almost never discuss about it because the media attention on tv and such exaggerate the newsbit so much im not that interested in it anymore, yes, the guy passed trough amsterdam and we have a local blonde hero that singlehandedly jumped over the airplane seats to wrestle with the crazy guy. Guy got his way btw, with the world spending millions on bodyscanners, i can only hope some of the better footage leaks to porn sites.

Same with Haiti and similar destruction from weather causes, not really much to say about it except that its awful for the people there. Hmm, i did read one interesting thingy on it today, the Senegalese pm offered Haitians land and jobs if they seek refuge in his country, good to see even African countries can by now step up in times of need.

Unless the disaster affects you personally or is rather unusal in nature, odds are we've grown numb due to media overexposure. You can related to it, if a friend suffers hardship or passes away, but when numbers become surreal or the events are distant... it simply registers in the brain as happening, but the empathy is hard to come buy (unfortunately).

Wow! So much we could be talking about, or randomly posting about just for the sake of posting and it's been three months since the last post in this thread.

So... how about that volcano in Iceland shutting down all the air traffic in Northern Europe. It's now drifting over this way and shutting down flights in eastern Canada.

Poland just lost a large number of it's government and officials.

Race wars heating up in South Africa.

Life discovered on Saturn's moon, Titan.

The list goes on...
