So did you look them up? If yes, what's your opinion?

I have haven't had the chance to listen to their stuff until now. Listening to Psychosocial. Ehhhh don't like their shtick as basically gorn cosplayers (yes I know they're from the mid 90s when gorn wasn't really existent but hey that's what I see when I see their videos) but they seem to be the the standard metal band that hides behind spectacle and yelling to make music edgy.

Not bad but certainly not great either. Like you said
Ah well, the old problems of Death Metal. They often have talented musicians in the bands, as shown by these instrumentals, only to ruin it with the vocalist.
If they lose the gimmicky cosplaying shtick (which works for some bands like Gwar) Slipknot shows potential to winning me over.

I can't really say I know Slipknot (no change from my previous post in this thread I suppose), but I'm going to listen to them live anyway in October. They are the warm up band for the Metallica concert I got tickets for /headbang :twisted:

It's not that growls are bad per se, they can be great. Most often though, they're not.

What I would consider "great" growls:

<snip incomplete list>
Double post ftw!

Weren't you from Austria? How come, as a native German speaker, that there is no Udo Dirkschneider (solo or in his old band, Accept) on that list??? Blasphemy! :eyebrow:

I wouldn't consider good old Udo to be growling. He screams at times, sure, but with skill - unlike what... whoever the volcaist of Slipknot is. At least from what I know of U.D.O and Accept.
