I'm serious, maybe better than most games, but still seriously over-rated

All of you are forgetting Commando for the C64!!! Seriously though, IWD1, FO's 1 and 2, PS:T are among the best there are. OTher greats are Arcanum, MDK2 and Tiberian Sun (I liked it...).
I do bugger-all, but that's OK;

my personal favourites:

xenon 2 on the amiga/ST
monkey island 1 and 2 - ok, it was a bit bleepy, but the simple reggae tunes complemented the games perfectly and are stuck in my head still after all these years

to be honest, not much in game music seems to penetrate my consciousness anymore. is it because the music is declining or because my ear for a tune is declining?

You guys forgot the amazing opening theme to Thief, you also forgot the awesome techno from System Shock 2.

Oh, and I'm stunned/offended that no one mentioned Myst 3's astounding score, as good as anything in Icewind Dale.

Awsome techno?! What?! Only two games where I have noticed awesome techno is some NFS title and Pursuit of Greed (Nekros)...the latter being a stinker of game, but great techno.

the slowly tryingto understand visual puzzles..? they are definitely much more beautiful puzzles then you find in your weekly puzzle magazine, why not try your thoughts on such games instead of puzzling trough your cross-word or cryptogram?

and i must say i was impressed by the surroundings of myst 3: exile.

it's pretty cheap for the xbox and pc nowadays, it's worth a try, puzzling in such environments is just a good pasttime

Indeed, but Exile was still pretty awesome IMO. Seeing Saavedro through the window but not being able to interact with him until very late in the game was pure genius!

Mark Morgan and Jeremy Soule, definitely (PST, IWD, etc.).

Non-game music but somewhat reminiscent - the Donnie Darko movie soundtrack by Michael Andrews. There are some nice moments, like the "Gretchen Ross" theme.

Although I can't recall them specifically, I believe the IWD "Heart of Winter" expansion had some really nice ones.

And, though the game itself just somehow seemed "half-finished," I remember that Gorasul had a few nice pieces (I don't think a lot of people played Gorasul, though).

Actually, the only game I can remember a techno track from is an older title by Interplay called Messiah. Cool game, never could beat evil Bob in the end battle though :cry:
