Did anyone ever play Dune2?

Post by Ruathavril » Thu Jan 29, 2004 10:20 am

I just remembered that I still have Dune2 lying around unplayed. Though I have played the accompanying soundtrack-cd (I like the music :) ), I never got around to playing the game. I wonder whether it's worth the trouble of installing? Did anyone ever play it and if so, did you like it?

You mean the old one? By westwood? Was nice at the time, but compared to recent games (ignoring gfx and sound), the controls are awful. Ya' have to select one unit, select the wanted action, click on the target, and so on and so forth. Reaaaally tedious, and it makes yer' arm hurt after a while. But then again, this comes from a guy, who's not much for RTSs.

Ummm, I may have given you the wrong title. Emperors of Dune could be a more correct title? The game's about three years old (IIRC)?

^ Don't be, happens to the best of us.

Dune 2 was a great game, considering it was pre-C&C. I haven't played the remake (Dune 2000) or the new one though. Never came around buying them despite wanting to.

Didn't like Dune II and 2000 that much, but Dune I is still the best Dune game if you ask me (I know, I know, you didn't ask )

It has *really* good music, and it is an enjoyable combination of adventure and strategy, it's biggest flaw is that it didn't stick close enough to real story.

You can get it at www.the-underdogs.org , just use dosbox ( http://dosbox.sourceforge.net ) if it doesn't run.

anybody ever play Herzog Zwei? That game stood the test of time really well, imo.

Dune 2 was a key experience...I played it for about 4 hours and then decided that real time was too fast for me.

:look:

uuh...no?
Shouldn't I have seen that when going through the options menu? Years of RTS abstinence because of nothing...oh well I don't think I'd ever become a much of a real time general anyway. But I might give this game another chance.

BTW, you guys do know that Dune 2 wasn't the first RTS game, right?
