Interplay sucks! I want tech support!!!

Post by Joseph » Sun Jan 14, 2007 8:09 am

Seriously, I'm pissed. I have the Chess Platinum which has USCF Chess, Battle Chess and Battle Chess II - Chinese Chess.

I play chess from time to time and I've toyed with Battle Chess once or twice. The animations are funny, being so dated but not funny enough that it's worth the time it takes to watch them.

Well, I thought (since my body and brain still think I'm in Budapest and I keep waking up on Euro time) that I'd try Chinese Chess. I mean, it's gotta be great right? Says right on the CD cover:

"An ancient cousin to standard chess where the action is sometimes hilarious, sometimes unfortunate, but always fun."

Well, the frickin' Chinese Chess won't run. Won't even get off the first screen. This is the support page: http://interplay.com/support/product.asp?GameID=427

fudge you Herve.

BTW, for those not following Herve's continued sodomising of Interplay's corpse... Interplay's creditors filled an involuntary bankruptcy petition against them in a California court. Hehehehehe.

Oh, and Herve claims to have found investors willing to fork over 75 million to finance FOOL. Uh huh.

The guy just won't let it die.

So, are you running Dos 6.2 or Windows 95 on your system...?

It doesn't look like it likes 32bit and better systems.

Well, I certainly didn't try running it on XP. It was installed on an ME system. ME should work since it was really nothing more than a repackaged 98.

It's not even worth trying to start up in DOS. But I did want to see the "hilarious" action.

Thanks. I may do that.

So uh, no comments on Herve, involuntary bankruptcy or this alleged 75 million for the so-called Fallout MMORPG?

What's there to say about the Magic Turd? He's like those seriously mentally handicapped. At first their antics are guilt-inducingly amusing, but then you realise it's just sad.

In slightly related news, however, it seems that Jefferson has been raised from the dead: Teh link of links!

Yeah, I saw that about Sawyer's massive mod undertaking and actually found myself cheering him on, hoping that he finally gets to see something through from start to finish (IWDII doesn't count).

IWD2 is a product of the Angler, and should never be mentioned again!

In which case we need to do something fancy to the wordfilter.

Hmm... I think the damned chess game cheats.

While I admit that it's been years since I've read the rules (I just remember the legal moves) in 10 games, I'm 0-5-5.

Reason I say I think the game cheats is because in one game it gave me a draw when the computer had just the king and I had my king, a pawn and a rook. AFAIK, that shouldn't have been a draw. My pawn makes it to the other side and I get a piece back and obviously, I'd have taken my queen back.

GRRR!

hmm, both the rook or the pawn should suffice to win if you play it right, there are two ways it could have become a draw, either there was such a position that he couldnt make a move with his king (stalemate), which can happen with both the rook and the pawn&king, And you might have gotten in (exactly) the same positions for a third time (with no changes is enpassant or castling).
There are some more draw options, but i suppose you didnt do 50 moves without moving a pawn or taking a boardpiece.

When he accused a computer chess game of cheating, I sort of envisioned the screen going black for a moment and then slightly re-arrange a few of the pieces before showing the screen again...

If you don't touch the keyboard and mouse for more than 2 minutes, it starts removing your pieces discreetly :P
