Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force

Does anybody remember this game? One of my friends loved it and thought I would enjoy it

I remember it. It's what, 12-13 years old? I didn't like it. The Star Trek franchise, for all the money it has, has never released a good game.

I just didn't think it was a good game. And visually, it was pretty clunky to me. Also back then I was pretty much into just the Black Isle games.

I think the only other games I had then were Age of Empires games and expansions and a computer chess game.

Oh, and I had Star Trek Armada which was total crap.

TNG era. And the game was total crap. A quick google search will no doubt bring up plenty of reviews to tell you how bad most found it.

Slightly unrelated, but I wonder what the going rate for the original series is on Amazon these days... I'm seriously tempted (yeah, miss the old campy stuff).

The first result on google
Most Star Trek games aren't very good, but Star Trek Armada's an exception.

I really liked Star Trek: Star Fleet Command 3. THAT was a great game for lan play especially. But most Star Trek games aside from Final Unity were not great by any means.

I enjoyed Elite Force as an FPS, however. It was made by Raven, I think, and it had solid mechanics and I liked the idea of a Federation ship having an anti-boarding party. Given to often the melee/gun battles in Star Trek were lame overall, this was a more mature approach to such material. There was also a Elite Force 2 that sold so poorly that Paramount got SUED by the developer for letting the Star Trek franchise slide into shit.

I get the concern about clunky graphics, however. It was the dawn of the Quake 3 engine, and Joesph likes his material hand drawn.

Elite Force was a pretty good shooter and is certainly, along with Armada, A Final Unity and it's successor Elite Force 2 among the best games based on Star Trek there are.

Well none of them were truly spectacular or did anything new, Armada was a very simple RTS with only one gatherable resource and one that grows on its own and Elite Force was nowhere near the great shooters of the time BUT to say they were bad games is just doing them injustice.

Armada in particular had the original voice acting crew on board for the cutscenes and a decent, if a bit absurd, storyline that satisfied the Star Trek nerd in me well enough. I'd love to play it again, but the game really got huge issues under Windows 7. Feh.

edit:

Yeah. The game *is* 13 years old and it shows. Then again, people who play games for graphics alone should be quartered, shot and poisoned, not necessarily in that order.
Requested: One Mark V ECM unit, 1000 km of Fullerene cable, one low-yield nuclear warhead.

Purpose: Surprise party for foreign dignitary.
