Winterwind Ad Policy - Discussion

Post by AngryKidJoe » Mon Jul 01, 2013 8:35 pm

Some of the 'sponsors' actually have pretty interesting websites. I like poking around.

ads are necessary for survival. only jerks block them on sites they visit. support your sites!

and the ads here... banner ads. harmless and not annoying. no freakin popups or videos. i hate those.

I probably should have "locked" this announcement.

Eloquent, as always, TPJ. But thanks for your... uh... "support".

I block them for those I KNOW make a decent income. An internet reviewer I know demands 50 bucks a pop for a review request. Sorry but when you have 100+ videos and you're basically insisting anything higher than 10 bucks for a review. I'm not gonna help you. There's just something about it that's scummy to me when asking for donations that big for a job AND asking to click on sites, again that's just my opinion.

BUT that's an exception not a rule. I'm happy to support things that mean a lot to me, even my former asshole work forum or this forum (which is awesome).
I have no time for flat characters why should I have times for flat people?

I split these posts from the announcement because, while the discussion is relevant (and the support is more than welcome, naturally) I really should have "locked" the announcement after posting it.

That being said...

Aside from the Asian dating sites, and seeing some ads in French - for which I blame our new columnist, John Davies' first article I Don't Speak French, Mais ce n'est pas un Problème ;) - I'm actually seeing some really cool looking ads lately. Must be more traffic to the site gets us bigger, badder, sexier sponsors.

I get a lot of music production and casual gaming ads.

I get a mix of MMOs and, ironically, food and banking.

Honestly... I have no idea how to market my novel. Think advertising on this site may not be a bad idea, when I have the money. How would I swing that?

Uh... I don't think there is a way to do that. The ads displayed are simply whatever our provider serves up. We can block ads we don't like but we can't request specific ones.

It's a fantastic thought of yours though, love that you're thinking of a reciprocal little cyber affair and we'll certainly promote you as much as we can since you're part of the team/family but there's no way that I know of to run an ad of yours.

Sucking eight dicks in a row at the underpass to get someone to click a link to my novel on amazon has been TAXING. I'd much rather just suck one!

Uh... well, it won't be mine. Sweet Fish, ARMY changed you. You never talked that way before. Why couldn't you retain your sweet naivete like Buster Bluth did?
