BG2: ToB (on the Road)

Post by AngryKidJoe » Sun Feb 06, 2011 11:02 pm

So, I'm playing Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal during the work week. It should kill a lot of hours. I think I'm going to end up playing some sort of Cleric/Thief. I'd prefer to multiclass it, but the races I'd prefer to play don't allow for such. Thusly, I think I'm going to have to dual class it with a human. I'm also thinking about which I should start with and if I should use any kits.

If you go cleric first (which wouldn't make a lot of sense) theres no reason not to pick a kit. If you go thief first, swashbuckler or bounty hunter would result in more skill points which would let you have your thief skills maxed at a lower level than assassin.

Swashbuckler is the only kit I ever tried for a rogue. I really enjoyed that playthrough.

Ive beaten the game pretty much with every single class and kit with a couple exceptions. Bounty Hunter, Undead Hunter, Wizard Slayer... And probably some of the specialist wizards though I've definitely used conjurer, enchanter, and wild mage.

My favorite classes are probably Cavalier, Avenger, Sorceror, and Swashbuckler/mage

I've beaten it with every class, but not every kit. And I doubt I will. By the time I'm in the mood to replay it again, it'll only run on a computer found in a museum.

Actually, BG2 runs amazingly well on Vista 64. I was impressed. I think processor speeds make up for what the graphic cards lack in optimization for sprites. Though, I'm no tech expert so I can't really say for sure. Though, it does run lightning fast. Load times? Ha ha!

I dunno about that, old stuff tends to be compatible enough on new stuff even though you might have to jump through hoops to get it to work right, or use dosbox or something.

And I'm not about to do that. If I pop the disc in and it doesn't install/run easily, then I just don't bother. But then I'm not that big a gamer. I never cared enough to upgrade my old pc. I was running ME until last February when I got a Windows 7 laptop, which I've never installed any games on.

Until we got a PS3 about three months ago, any gaming I did was over at a friends. And even having a PS3 now, I've got three games. Mag, CoD: Black Ops and Fallout: New Vegas. I'm already bored of all three and I'm in no rush to rush out and get something else.

I look at gaming more as a social activity (MMO) or something to pass the time. Of course, I do go through stages where I'll be quite into gaming, but that's usually only when it's new or I'm trying to complete various achievements/trophies and in the case of the latter, it's not so much fun as it is determination and once I get it, I lose interest again.

With BG/BG2 for example, the last few replays were simply because posts here would make me nostalgic, I'd start a new game, play for a few hours then then grow bored again.

Hehe, keep us posted on your nostalgic adventure, might even join in and do a few things in the world myself.

Regarding your choice of class, why not just convert Tiax as best as you can :), there's little nicer than him, even without his ghast. Regarding the different kits, i think i personally wouldnt take any, as that gives you the most skillpoints iirc. If not i guess Swashbuckler is nice as it allows you a bit more armor and tanking capability. Never liked the bounty hunter (i dont have the patience for traps), and imo the Assassin is more suited for single class play as its x7 multiplier comes very late.

Myself, like MERL, prolly played the game trough with most of the kits, actually including the Wizard Slayer, he was quite fun without all the magic items. I think i had the most fun in the game with triple classes, bards, fighter wizard duals and indeed sorcerers. Although im a big fan of the traditional wizard, its a load of fun to pick spells instead of gathering them all.

Also, on my pc my old XP install of BGtutu seems to work fine on Windows 7, not even a reinstall needed. I do believe last time i ran it i preferred windowed mode, considering my giant screen.
"anyway, smoke orcs if so take eyes if right points left xy."
