The newest article from our newest regular columnist, John Davies, is here. John writes about the personal impact the music of Roxette has had on his life.

Great piece, John. A good look at Roxette combined with your own personal tale.

I've always liked Roxette since their music first made it across the Atlantic. My first thoughts were, "Oh, clever hooks, a cool guy that likes Rickenbackers as much as I do and, oh my, she's quite lovely!"

And yes indeed, IMHBL is/was a staple on my own mixed ballad compilations over the years.

Thanks, Joseph - I'm glad you enjoyed this article. It was certainly a... no, no... oh, go on... it was certainly a 'joyride' to write. :)

What I think is fantastic is... wow... the response to your article...

Re-tweeted, re-posted on Facebook by the folks running the Roxette blog... the article has 228 likes and counting. The response is simply amazing!

I have to say the reaction has been, as you say, amazing. I would say 'almost unreal' but I did a Joyride gag earlier and I do the Almost Unreal one in the article itself. Seriously though, to have been seen - and liked - by so many, so soon, has been an incredible experience.

And the "likes" are still climbing! And you have an avatar now. Good show. Was actually expecting a Doctor Who pic of some sort but either way, settle in, make yourself at home! You're family now.

Just read the article now, John. Reminds me of when I was a teenager listening to Dangerous on my boombox while playing Shinobi on my Atari computer. Those were.... actually, not good times, but nostalgia none the less. Good stuff!

Music does that time travel thing so well, doesn't it? So pleased you liked the article!

euro pop from way back is not my thing but cool that this got so much traffic

and music as time travel? yeah, totally takes you back though getting drunk by yourself and listening to songs that make you think of exes is a trip best avoided. i figured that one out.

Roxette isn't really euro pop though. Actually, it's a... far cry (not that I didn't like Europop/Eurodance, I grew up with it). Just compare Roxette's Sleeping In My Car with something from Aqua...

'Dressed for Success' harkens to 80's corporate culture to me. Also 'Must have been love' was a mainstay for moviegoers because of the shitty shitty shitty Pretty Woman.

Great to have some serious appreciation for non-UK and non-US music, a somewhat rare feature of mainstream pop, I feel. Very readable and with a lovely personal touch.
