1.9 Million in 2008
2.8 Million in 2009 (expected/predicted)

LA Times Link

It should also be noted that CD sales are decreasing.

Not bad for "yesteryears" technology

I once had a hundred or so vinyls, but they have mostly been replaced by cd's. The last 10 or so I never found in any other format. No idea what became of them really. Somehow, things get lost when you move between places :?

My dad used to DJ in the 80's. He had a bunch of vinyls and we can't seem to find them anywhere. He still has all of his equipment. Just no records. I think it's odd how something that large just disappears. It's happened to quite a few people I know.

Question for you, though. If you purchase music now is it done with CDs or do you just use mp3s these days?

What little music I buy these days is usually in the form of dvd's. Either music video collections or concerts. Got everything from Sarah Brightman and Haley Westenra to Metallica and AC/DC :)

I've never bought music online (i.e. digital download) and I haven't bought a music cd in more than 4 years now I think.
