Re: Random events of the day
So, Gorth being back, majestic and I reminiscing about the old days... I got all nostalgic, messaged Choyrt on Facebook mentioning the direction I want to take the site and would he be interested in contributing again and his response was "shit yeah" which... I think is a yes.

Hehehe... is he still into the piggy thing?
I remember that was sort of his "trademark" at least back when he was active here.
Other people might not care, but I'll have to say, Obsidian takes good care of it's forum volunteers. Free games, signed boxes, collectors edition boxes, hoodie jumper with Obsidian logo, t-shirts with Deadfire print on it (in the right size!) etc.
Edit: On a number of Obsidian games, you can also find the moderators in the credits part of the manuals (some with their forum names, most with their real names so they can show off a bit)

Yeah, I'd heard that. And it's quite impressive. Just sadly, the only Obsidian game I liked was New Vegas and then I was largely out of gaming shortly after. Played the hell out of it on both my old PS3 and on Steam. I think JE and I are still friends on Facebook but we haven't interacted for years.

Good shit!
Obsidian now is seemingly keen on being Epic Store only....blergh.

Re: Random events of the day
Yeah, that was a shitty move. Before pointing the gun though, Private Division is the publisher, Obsidian has no say in where it gets sold (I'm fairly sure that they themselves were convinced it would be a Steam/GOG thing, heck the trailer might even have mentioned Steam iirc).
With Microsoft being the new owners of Obsidian, I expect it wont happen for future games (which I'm *guessing* will be Microsoft Store first, anything else second).
Edit: Epic seems to use exclusive deals to get a market share from Steam, as they are apparently rock bottom when it comes to quality and user friendliness. So in order to avoid having to compete on quality, they prefer to avoid competing at all, throwing money at publishers to get exclusive deals, long term consequences be damned.
But, I can wait until 2020 for the two games I had been looking forward to (because I won't be buying anything from Epic anytime soon)

Wait, what? Microsoft owns Obsidian?
Damn, dude. Obsidian was Black Isle MKII to me even though I stopped gaming. That makes me sad.

It is sad. The day my childhood died. Okay, not really. But still sad.
Also, Epic sucks. So does Origin. And Uplay. And... you get the idea. Steam is getting worse bit by bit though.

Re: Random events of the day
As for how Epic funds their exclusivity deals... I always find it suspicious when a Chinese company ("Tencent") owns 40% of something. Buying a foothold in the Western gaming market would be my guess.

Re: Random events of the day
Tencent is extremely shady. One should not support it.
Steam getting worse is because of the others. Same with how Sony after they say Microsoft pulling off demanding payment to play online on their console, did the same. Bad habits that make money and no one complains loud enough? Lets do that too.

Re: Random events of the day
Guess I'm not missing much by not gaming anymore.
So... prepped the living room today. Well, as best I can with these lousy 80 year old plaster walls. Putting in, or removing, nails and drywall plugs and screws for pictures, drapes, etc, causes chunks of the wall to fall out, which requires patching, waiting for it to dry, sanding it... bah! If I owned this place I'd knock out the walls and redo them with drywall. Stupid old plaster... grumble grumble.
Anyhow, tomorrow should be interesting. The wife and the ex meeting. Hope it goes smoothly. They're both great gals and I'm keen on the idea of the three of us working on the YouTube channel together.
Speaking of... someone subscribed to it last night. I'm assuming it was one of the four of you lads here after I posted the announcement at the top of the forums. So, thanks.
