pictures. The smile, the eyes, the lighting and the poses; they all held promise of perfection. But as Anna walked up to the computer screen to look at the digital contact sheet, a chill of dissatisfaction ran along her spine. She flipped through photo after photo, and it became clear to her: it simply wasn't good enough.
"Marika!" Anna said with a frown and a rather sharp voice. "There's something missing. You're not bringing it!"
Anna's irritated remark caused a disturbing look on the Models face, as she came over to take a look at the photos herself. Apparently the model thought her work had been flawless, and whispers around on the set said that the others agreed. But Anna did not. They were wrong, there was something missing, the pictures lacked… something.
Sure, the model was beautiful enough, but this shoot needed to bring that extra edge. If it didn't, Anna would be out. So, she ignored the offended stare of the model and the bewildered looks of the stylish crew, and decisively ordered an additional shoot instead - an unorthodox move.
"Adjust the light! I need soft light boxes on her right, dammit!" Anna ordered, and while balancing the heavy camera in her left hand, the right one directed the studio crew in setting the new lighting.
Bending. Twisting. Stretching and smiling. Snap.
Anna had to hand it to her, the model was skilled, really skilled. And yet, when Anna walked over to look at the screen displaying the photos again, that "something" wasn't there. Pretty pictures, yes, but there was nothing extra, no edge.
"For fuck sake, Marika!" Anna snarled and glared at the model standing next to her, watching the bland pictures flipping by on the screen. The model flinched at Anna's words, and with that flinch inspiration struck Anna.
"I'm bringing it! The pictures are perfect, Anna!" The model almost shouted back at her. But the model's words fell on uncaring ears. Anna knew how to get what she needed now. She knew it must be anger missing in the shots!
Anna collected her mind quickly and
and prompted the tired model back on set for yet another shoot. Fatigue showed in the model's movement and expression as the camera kept going, but Anna did not care. The more tired the model, the angrier she became, the better the shot. Anna would get it now. The "it" must be there! It would be beautiful!
Snap. Raging eyes. Snap. Tired arms. Snap. Perfect face. Exquisite pose and pretty face. Snap!
Anna lowered the camera and the model relaxed and sighed a deep sigh. The third shoot of the day was over, two more than planned. They had pushed themselves today, and now they were all beat. Arms were tired and backs and feet were aching. But it was OK with Anna, she had got what she wanted, she knew she had.
Her body tingling with anticipation, Anna walked over to the screen. The pleased look on the crew's faces told her that what they saw was out of the ordinary - it had edge!
"Looks amazing!" Jacob, her art director said, pointing at the screen just as Anna stepped in front of it.
