We are living in the Digital Age, they say. The days of steam powered locomotives are over and many claim the gasoline powered car is nearing the end of it's era. So many wonderful, moving shapes and colours now fit onto a 14 inch TFT. Tired of life? Few people realize that we are living in ignorance on top of a blackened mound of abandoned, forgotten contraptions. Celebrating life while the ancient remains of our past are all that's holding things together.
The same steam that powered our steam trains, is now silently turning massive, electricity-generating turbines. The steam is in fact produced by oil. Yes folks, all those cool electric gadgets, that seem to be the very definition of our civilization, are in fact produced by oil, and in a few cases nuclear fuels.
So perhaps the steam engine hasn't left us after all. But basking in all our technological glory, could we have forgotten how fragile that glory is.
