The holy scripture is filled with the stories of miracles. Heroes. Men of common origin, who have no place in high society. Yet somehow they rise above the rest, in a realm untouchable by the wealthy and powerful.
But what the bible is also filled with, is stories of fish. One of Jesus' miracles, 'Feeding the multitude', was when Jesus conjured up enough fish to feed the thousands strong crowd which had gathered there!
The symbol of the fish was used by christians in hiding. When they were persecuted by the Romans, christians would find a way to express their faith, carving out fish, often in public places. The ancient greek word for fish was used as an acronym, standing for 'Jesus Christ God's Son and our Saviour'.
It is therefore with great devoutness that one must look upon one's fish sandwich, at 2am when there's nobody left around to notice you're stealing a bite while on night shift.
