My idea for the setting was Earth, sometime within the last two to three centuries. I didn't want a world with elves and dragons and trolls. I was tired of those. I thought a story rooted in our own world's myths and more recent history would be interesting.
Chris liked the idea and suggested we get Daniel (Eldar) involved. We knew posting was far less cumbersome than email and attachments so Kevin (Valqorez) set up the forums and shortly after, Mattias (Spider) joined.
Joe (aka crazy.joe aka AngryKidJoe) made the "promo poster" and Michael (Gorth) did the 3-D art.
The basic story outline:
The main character was a university student from Winterbourne Stoke, near Stonehenge. One autumn night, while away at school, he had a very vivid dream of his sister dying.
His older sister, Sarah, was part of the new class of 19th century English women: university educated. She was travelling across Europe with her companion, Victoria, before going to Egypt on an expedition.
The main character (dubbed "Prot" for "protagonist") would have been something like Mulder from the X-Files, believing in the paranormal. He believed the dream was real and left for the continent, to find his sister.
Stopping at his home on the way, he discovered Michael, Sarah's former fiance, shared the dream.
Michael was consumed with guilt. He broke the engagement at his mother's request, her dying wish being that he became a priest in the Catholic church.
As the two travelled to London, "Prot" had a vision. The ghost of Sarah's friend, Victoria, appeared before him.
Because of the shared dream, and now the vision, "Prot" convinced a reluctant Michael that they needed to find a medium to help them.
This was the autumn of 1888. The Ripper stalked London's East End.
And their contact was in Whitechapel.
The seer spoke of a great evil and said there was a connection between the Ripper and the dream.
