The Cybermen meet the Marx Brothers

In 1933, the Cybermen attempt to invade Freedonia. Their emotional inhibitors are no match for Groucho, Harpo, Chico and Zeppo. The Marx Brothers' manic mayhem cause the Cybermen to self-delete.

When the Doctor introduced Martha to Shakespeare, saying she was from Freedonia, I laughed and wondered how many would get the reference to the classic Marx Brothers' film, Duck Soup.

Being a fan of the Marx Brothers, I have their Silver Screen boxset and my Cybermen actually stand on the shelf next to it. When I took the pictures for this article, it was quite natural (and fitting) to pose them against it.

I tried some with a Doctor Who boxset but the Cybermen were dull, lustreless. They simply lacked the silver radiance they had with the Marx Brothers boxset.

Funny little things, those uncanny coincidences. Makes you think a bit.

In an homage to the classic series, I built my "set" with the empty trays from a box of chocolates and two upside down tea light stands.
