The custom commissions I do will have me running the gamut from underwater scenes to a just completed fireplace screen to church windows.

The church windows at St George in Bradenton, Florida, were commissioned by a private donor who wanted the Four Evangelists. I wanted to make them other than the usual depictions with angels, beams of light and overused bearded men in yards of robes.

Making Saint Mark

As the glass is cut, it's laid over the sketch. When all pieces are cut, each is wrapped with copper foil and soldered together.

The copperfoiled oval is then framed by glass assembled with the traditional lead came method.

These windows combine the two main techniques of working in glass. The outer rectangle is using extruded lead H shapes to hold the glass that are soldered at the intersections. The inside oval is with copper foil - the method Tiffany used to construct his lamps.

The faces and hands are hand painted and fired with glass stainer's paint as the old cathedral window figures were centuries ago.
