Anniversary Diamonds

I’m sick of those commercials
about anniversary diamonds
especially since you told me
next to money, my love doesn’t mean a thing
but I’ll bet you watch Traders every Thursday night
idly fingering your wedding ring.

You know I saw this add
just the other day,
trips to Antigua, Cuba and all the places
I can’t afford to go.
You’re such a tease, lying naked on that beach,
before you board that plane there’s something you should know.

Everything I’ve ever done,
you’ve thrown it all away
but everything I’ve ever done
was always all for you.
You talk about pain and feeling responsible,
well don’t forget it goes both ways
‘cause every tear I’ve ever cried
I have cried for you.

Now you’ve got the old man’s money
and he’s got his trophy wife,
your gold digging dreams have all come true
but every night when you lie beside that lump in the bed
you miss me ‘cause the old boy
can’t fuck you like I do.

And everything you gave to me,
I threw it all away
‘cause everything you’ve ever done
was always all for you
and every tear I’ve ever cried
was just a waste of time
‘cause now I see so perfectly,
your leash was my noose.

The lyrics make me laugh. As dated as it now is, it was fun to write because I hated those damned People's Jewellers commercials and saw Traders as example of extremely abysmal Canadian televsion. It also "ends" the affair, being the last completed song. Musically it's a rocky, ascending and descending riff.
