Suspended Disbelief
Lyrical selections from the 1990s
Song of Autumn Twilight
The nights grow colder
as I sit on this hill,
the heavens reminding me
of the stars I once saw in your eyes.
Memories of summers past,
like the strangers I once knew as friends,
obscured by the clouds of the coming storm.
In all my dreams I hear
ravens crying out to me,
their mocking laughter ringing in my ears.
Restless leaves,
blown by a bitter wind,
either dead or dying,
like the love that passed us by.
All the things that I thought I saw in your smile
turned out to be nothing more than pleasant lies.
Stumbling through life in the darkness of someone else's night,
waiting for the moment, but I fear the moment is gone.
Memories of holding you in my arms
no longer make me smile,
in fact they almost make me cry.
Banishing all thoughts of you
I close my eyes and lose myself
in the shadows of the Autumn Twilight.

acoustic rock, Key of D minor
Vox, acoustic, piano, woodwinds, stings, percussion
Actually written after Song of Winter Night, it's nothing remarkable. It's solidly constructed musically, a brisk rythmic acoustic piece in mostly minor chords and I like the sense of desolation in the lyrics. But it's mainly included here because it was written as part of a three piece movement (Song of Three Seasons).
