Suspended Disbelief
Lyrical selections from the 1990s
Dear Dark Passion
Closer now, deeper still,
this spell you've cast upon me
ensures I always will,
lay at your feet, gaze into your eyes,
wanting nothing more
than forever by your side.
Every dream that came before
is like the faded dying light
of autumn's setting sun
as you draw me deep into your night.
While there's something so familiar,
about the way you've reached inside
I've never felt such hunger,
I've never been so terrified.
Let me worship you as a goddess,
let me be your willing slave,
devour me with your burning kiss
though it sends me to my grave.
You know my deepest secrets,
you walk inside my dreams,
consume me with your passion,
I'll fulfill your darkest fantasies.
You hold my soul enthralled,
my surrender is complete,
I know that you possess me,
as I bow down to kiss your feet.
I give to you my life,
let your shining blade spill my blood
and as the darkness takes me
I'll beg you for your love.

Arguably one of my favourite, and best, compositions. I remember playing it for a friend who was a classical pianist. She called it the most beautiful song she'd ever heard. Musically, it was more involved than my normal writing. I used 15 different chords/variations because though composed on guitar, I meant it for piano. I also used my entire vocal range. (I have a 5 & 1/2 octave range but I'm a self-concious singer so I only ever really sing in two octaves.) For all that, it's actually not written for anyone or inspired by anyone as far as I know.
