Lyrical selections from the 1990s

Some Fairy Tale

All the words you've said,
like the ashes of a fire,
flickering briefly
then blown away by the wind.
As for my own words,
they serve as a poison,
constant reminders
of what might have been.

And if I saw you now,
I don't know what I'd say
if I said anything at all.

Smiling faces
can't hide the tears
that you cry for yesterday.
In years to come,
when you think of me
have a drink in my name.

And the world you live in,
like some fairy tales I've read,
such happy endings,
too bad they never last.
All our time together,
like two jealous little kids,
so busy fighting
we never stopped to laugh.

I guess I should have known,
the signs were there all along
but I still had to try.

All alone,
I sit in this bar
listening to the radio.
Funny how
every song I hear
reminds me of you.

rock ballad, Key of A
Vox, acoustic, electric, bass, piano, drums

I've always been proud of this song. It's the oldest one here. I thought it fairly developed for a 19 year old. The verses are slow, the choruses have more energy and there's an soft, finger picked intro which is repeated as an outro. Lyrically, it's a fiction, a writing exercise.
