Will 2010 be...

Better than 2009
Worse than 2009
About the same
Meh. Wake me in 2012

Suspended Disbelief

Lyrical selections from the 1990s

Sunrise

All the pages of those unsent letters
pile up on the floor
I guess I’ve run out of things to say
but it doesn’t matter any more.
The sky above me
is cold and grey
as the rain comes falling down.
I wonder where you are tonight
as I walk the streets of this empty town.

We never saw the sun rise together
but there’s no-one to blame.
We never saw the sun rise together,
I guess the dreams we shared just weren’t the same.

You kissed me softly as you got out of bed,
left me with the taste of sweat mixed with tears.
You said that you were afraid
and that nothing could ever ease your fears.
I tried to give you all I could,
I thought my love was enough.
Now I wonder was it not enough
or maybe I gave too much.

We never saw the sun rise together
but there’s no-one to blame.
We never saw the sun rise together,
I guess the dreams we shared just weren’t the same.

And when I asked you about all the things we’d planned
you shook your head and said I just don’t understand.

Lying alone in this dark room
I hear laughter echo on the streets.
If I close my eyes I know I’ll dream about you
and cry myself to sleep.

We never saw the sun rise together,
all we ever got was rain.
We never saw the sun rise together,
now memories are all that remain.
We never saw the sun rise together
but there’s no-one to blame.
We never saw the sun rise together,
I guess the dreams we shared just weren’t the same.

rock ballad, Key of A
Vox, electric, bass, piano, drums

I've always like the little word play of "sun rise" and "sunrise" and could never decide which way to sing it. Beyond that, the song was the story spending a long, lonely weekend writing a letter. Musically, it's an arpeggiated rock ballad in A, with some chorus and reverb on the guitars.
