Lyrical selections from the 1990s

Two Skies

There’s something about that old church steeple
silhouetted against a slate grey sky,
makes me think of you, makes me want to cry.
And the sunset to the west,
such a brilliant purple and orange,
makes me feel so alive
I wish I’d never been born.

Two skies,
the one I see in my dreams
and the one I see in your eyes.
Two skies,
the one I face alone
and the one I found by your side.

Guilt cuts like a knife,
your absence deeper still,
I’ve spent forever waiting
and I know I always will.
You say there’s no such thing as hope
and I’ve heard that love is blind
still somehow I know since time began,
our souls are intertwined.

gospel feel, Key of D
Vox, acoustic, bass, piano, strings, drums

This song was written around the image of the first verse. I was walking one evening and saw this incredibly gorgeous sunset as I passed by a church. Musically, the song was based on the progression from Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D, an all time favourite of mine.
