Suspended Disbelief

Victor's Song
How enticing and inviting
was the innocence of your smile.
Who could know the dark deceit,
the depth of your betrayal.
You, who had within your grasp
the warm rays of the sun
cursed yourself and those you loved
to walk forever in the rain.
In the night you lay awake
dreaming of the dawn
but evil turns upon itself
and for you it never came.
How bitter was your harvest fruit,
tainted with innocent blood,
and the monster that you made
was no worse than what you had become.
No solace could you find in life,
tormented by your past,
a greater lie was the peace
you once thought you'd find in death.
How dark the clouds that hang over head
as I lay these flowers on your grave.
I'm not ashamed of my tears
but of not knowing who they're for.
Weep ye all, weep with me
the fate of those who do
in the Raven's Realm dare to dream
the ambitious dreams of fools.

haunting lament, Key of A minor
Vox, acoustic, piano, strings, percussion
One of my first "literary", non love lyrics, written after reading Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Musically, it's built around a really discordant A-minor 9th chord, it's mournful, slow, moody. The lyrics were my direct response to reading the story, my message to Victor Frankenstein if you will.
