Song of Winter Night

Night into day
then day into night once again,
the endless cycles of a thousand seasons
turn under the sun,
so many times I'd dream of you
but now you're gone,
like the falling moon.

Forced into another day,
living this life of wasted lies,
fool that I am, thinking I saw love in your eyes.

Now a stranger,
my feelings deadened from loneliness,
passion burning like a nights fire,
I lay torn
between thoughts of you
and my need for leaving.

Always before was I afraid
of the shadows that played in the dark,
like the beauty of a Winter Night's dream in my heart.

INTERLUDE

Heavy the burden
I carry through life,
chill is the wind piercing my soul.
Forever I'll love you,
forever I'll cry
because the dream is too pleasant
to ever let go of.

One of the few songs I ever co-wrote. An old high school friend of mine came over one winter night with a chord progression he was stuck with. It became the verse. I wrote chords for the chorus and bridge without touching my guitar, just saying "try these" and it worked. Then we wrote the lyrics, with him contributing the second verse. I think I still have the original lyrics actually, written on a page torn out of an art class sketch book.
