Suspended Disbelief

Lyrical selections from the 2000s

And in the Darkness

I don't believe in miracles
or rainbows after the rain.
Since you've left it's not the same.
And the only thing that makes sense to me
are grey skies and the pain
that I've found since your absence came.

And the stars seem a little different tonight
than the ones that once lead me home to you,
they're not as bright as they were before.
And I think I've thought of everything
but I can't think of what to do
so I'll just lay here on the floor.

And in the darkness
your voice still calls my name
though I know that sooner or later
your ghost will fade away.

And should my wandering footsteps lead me
past the place where I first saw you
I will raise my eyes to the sky
because drunk or sober, straight or stoned
I never could find the strength
to face that last good-bye.

And in the darkness
your voice still calls my name
though I know that sooner or later
your ghost will fade away,
I'm not so sure I want it to
because that ghost is all I have left of you.

acoustic rock ballad, Key of F-sharp
Vox, acoustic (capoed) electric, bass, piano, cello, drums

Another piece I'm proud of and that was been well complimented by others. Lyrically, it was part inspired, part fictional but I think the lyrics are quite strong. Musically, it's a slow acoustic ballad but my favourite part was always the piano solo that an old friend played for it.
