Suspended Disbelief
Lyrical selections from the 2000s
Pretend
You say we're friends,
you don't love me,
you never loved me,
I love you for that,
let me die for you,
I'll do what you want,
I can pretend.
I can hear you,
do you listen to me?
You never listen to me.
I can see you,
feel you, touch you, taste you,
I can smell you,
you never see me.
Fuck him for me,
pretend he is me,
I will be you,
if I hate myself too
maybe I'll understand.
Please hurt me,
I love how you hurt me,
I want you to hurt me.
You never believe me,
will you ever know me?
You take me for granted,
I believe in you.
Someday, maybe today,
maybe someday,
if I don't love you,
if I don't want you,
you'll feel the same.

I tend to refer to this as my "BDS&M" song. Both lyrically and musically, it's different from anything else I'd ever written which was what I conciously wanted to achieve. Musically, it's slow, draggy with the dropped tuning, vocally I move around from low to falsetto, and it's actually a lot of fun to sing and play.
