Suspended Disbelief

Lyrical selections from the Church Benches and Rain

Castles in the Air

The leaves are changing colour my love
as I walk along the river alone.
Strange that I can see you here
in this place we have never been
and so I sink down to the ground
and let the leaves cover me.

Would that you were here my love
to lay with me upon the earth,
to look up to the azure sky
seeing castles in the air
and the promise of a perfect world
that I can see in your eyes.

Forever without you
is an empty eternity.
Forever with you
could never be long enough.

I wish that I could sleep my love
and never wake up from this dream
for though the sun still shines
I can not feel it's warmth
and above the sound of my tears
the wind whispers your name.

Fragile, yearning, Key of B
Vox, acoustic (capoed), woodwinds, strings

The lyrics are self explanatory and again, closer to poetry than traditional song lyrics. Musically, it's very tender, finger picked chords descending then trying to ascend again, rather like falling leaves caught briefly by a gentle breeze. I tried to capture the feel of the fall day it was written on.
