Wishing (Doesn't Make it So)

I was listening to the Pogues'
Fairy Tale of New York City
and thinking that my life
is really rather shitty.
Dreams don't mean a thing
when you're dreaming them alone
and Jiminy Cricket's a liar
because wishing doesn't make it so.

So tell me what to believe
when the truths I seek turn to lies
and tell me where to turn
when everywhere I look I see your eyes.

I'm the anti-King Midas,
everything I touch turns to smoke
and drifts away
and even if I knew where to start
I don't know what to change.
But if I keep holding on
maybe someday I'll break through
then the shadows will fall away
and the light will lead me to you.

So tell me how to smile
when the tears become too much
and tell me what to feel
when there's only the absence of your touch.

Acoustic rock, Key of G
Vox, acoustic, electric, bass, piano, drums

When I was very young I learned wishing doesn't make it so. This song is built around that sentiment. I like the lyrics, the straightforward writing, the references. Musically, I've changed it around a few times, never deciding whether to make it acoustic or electric oriented.
