Bad Guitar Techs

Bad Guitar Techs

by Joseph Avery-North

As a musician, playing primarily guitar and bass, there’s little I loathe more than bad guitar techs. Finding a good, reliable and competent guitar tech isn’t easy. When you find one, they’re worth their weight in gold. Sadly the world is full of very bad guitar techs and in my experience, playing for 35 years, there are far more bad techs than good ones.

Anyone can do a basic setup. Adjusting action, intonation and relief is easy peasy but for the more involved work I need a good tech and in my home town I have yet to find one I trust after our resident wizard, Rainer, moved back east last year.

In the following video I’m going to detail my recent experience trusting one of their techs to do some basic fretwork on my bass. To say I’m not happy is an understatement in the extreme. We’re a week into December and my Hofner bass has been buggered since April.

There’ll be at least two updates to come on this subject…
