Covid-19 Blues

Covid-19 Blues

Covid-19 Blues – a parody and political protest song I’ve addressed to the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and Federal Minister of Finance, Bill Morneau, regarding the egregious flaws and shortcomings in CERB, the Canadian federal government’s financial aid response to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

When I was younger, I was a politically active idealist. I campaigned for candidates, went to rallies, scrutineered polling stations, etc, but I didn’t want to talk about politics or write about it on Winterwind. I wanted us to address social issues sans politics. I’d still prefer to address social issues without delving deeply into politics but the older I get the more I realise there are no good governments, it’s simply a matter of hoping the party that will do the least amount of damage wins the election.

Still, we have to vote. We have to vote for two reasons. The first is that if you don’t vote you’re not allowed to complain about the election results, at least that’s what I’m told. And if we don’t vote then then wrong lizard might get into office! (Treat yourself to a cookie if you get that reference.)

I hope this little parody of Summertime Blues provides a laugh while conveying a serious message.
